The front wheel brake is operated by a hand lever on right handlebar, and the rear wheel brake is operated by a foot pedal on the right side of the motorcycle. To keep drum type brakes in proper operating condition, it is essential to check adjustment of brakes at regular service intervals of 5000 miles, or sooner, depending on wear of brake linings and drums. See adjustment of brakes and centering brake shoes. If brakes do not operate satisfactorily after adjustment of linkage and recentering brake shoes in drums, disassemble and service brakes and connecting linkage. Hydraulic disk brakes are self-adjusting. Brake fluid level in both front and rear brake master cylinders should be checked every 1000 miles.
