Exhaust Triple

Only one type of Triple exhaust system is factory fitted and that is supplied with all machines not built as Jotas and Mirages. This basic system consists of three down pipes, a three-into-two collector pipe which sits under the gearbox and two silencers. (The factory uses seamed silencers except on the Jarama and German market machines which are seamless).

The system fitted to the 1000 3C(E), Jota and Mirage consists of the same number and description of parts but the collector pipe and the seamless silencers are made in England and are of a bigger bore, and less restrictive. They are not supplied in Italy because of legislation relating to noise.

NOTE: A special three-into-one collector was available for early 1000s for America. It used the standard left-side silencer.

A factory racing shop three-into-one megaphone system has sometimes been available

An early Twin exhaust system. This one has a push-in balance pipe which appears to have blued quite nicely

The later Twin big' system with the underslung balance box. This box is held by one large 'hose' clip which tends to rust

This early Triple's exhaust illustrates the excellent design of this system. Make sure the down pipes do not touch the frame tubes

This is the rear end of the Triple's collector box which the 'one', of the 'three into 'one' into 'two', goes into the 'two'. It's a Laverda part here

This is the rear end of the Triple's collector box which the 'one', of the 'three into 'one' into 'two', goes into the 'two'. It's a Laverda part here although it is totally unsuitable for the road. All that has been said for the fitting of a Twin system applies to the Triples as well. When a big-bore system is fitted it will be necessary to alter the carburettor jetting.

The big bore silencers are of better quality than the factory silencers, but all eventually go rusty even if it is at a slower rate than that of the Twins. The 1979 Jota and 1200 Anniversary feature black 'chrome' or painted pipes.

NOTE: Two types of big bore collector boxes are available in addition to the standard one. Both the Laverda and UK produced ones are options only.
