Fuel tank

Little further can be said about fuel tanks that has not already been said in the Bodywork chapter.

Tank repair is not something which can be done successfully by an owner except for the filling of small dents and repainting. Anything major should be tackled by an experienced repairer. Never put heat anywhere near a tank without first thoroughly swilling it out with water. Remember it's petrol fumes which ignite in a 'flash', not liquid.

Alloy and glass fibre SFC tanks need careful handling. The alloy tank is pretty brittle whilst the glass fibre tank is now considered by most to be unsafe.
